Chance has significantly impacted the music industry and how people view religion. Few rappers incorporate gospel music and religious content into their albums/mixtapes and Chance has been able to do just that and be successful in doing so. In many ways Chance has paved the way for others, from the start of his career onwards he has always been transparent about his independence and his strong faith in God. Other well known rappers such as Kanye West have also had religious themes in their music but not to the extent nor in the same way as Chance. Chance proves to society that one can be a devoted Christian and still enjoy and produce rap music - he has made rap music have a positive connotation. When many people think of the rap genre they assume it promotes violence and drug use - which sometimes can be the case, but not always. Chance has used his platform well to be an activist and speak of injustices while also proving rappers can be religious - you don't have to choose one or the other. Focusing on his two most recent mixtapes, Acid Rap and Colouring Book, they each shine a light on important topics - for Acid Rap it's about drug addiction and racial inequality/police brutality, and for Colouring Book it is heavily oriented around God. Through both of these mixtapes it educates listeners about the hardships and triumphs of life that Chance has personally experienced and how he overcame it all with the help of God.
